In addition to the great soundtrack, the cast does a cracking job too. Some of the small things stand out in particular as well, such as the way the wind catches the trees, how sunlight breaks through the branches as a forest thins out, or even the flow of characters’ hair. The reason is obvious: there are graphical flourishes that wouldn’t have been possible with the new-gen console.
This third entry is the first The Witcher game to make its way to the PS4. And let’s not forget additional items, including crossbows and bombs, that come in handy for certain combat. To add to the mixing pot, there are a variety of magical spells that are essential for tactical attack and defense - particularly when ensconced by a group of enemies. The open landscape throws you into a world of magic and combat, led by enticing characters and great acting that will keep you hooked. Even now, 5 years later, it’s still a huge world to explore now with the included DLCs that were released in the past.
When it arrived back in 2015, there was no game of the same epic scale as The Witcher 3. It’s difficult to express just how huge and open this world is: verdant, rolling fields liberally dotted with swaying foliage of every shape and size fill the space between loosely connected, ramshackle townships where people struggle to scrape by. The Witcher 3 is infinitely denser and deeper than the other two games in the series in terms of RPG mechanics, and the overwhelmingly massive open-world environment has at once made that depth more intimidating, and in the long run, more rewarding.
